Spiritual Marriage Part II

“We are members of Christ’s body…The two shall become one flesh. This mystery is a profound one” Ephesians 5:31-32

Spiritual marriage is a profound mystery. It is higher and deeper than physical marriage and makes it possible for a truly intimate, long-lasting, satisfying marriage. It is the Passion that leads to a passionate marriage. It is a mystery whose time has come to be revealed. “Now to him who is able to strengthen you according to the gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery which was kept secret for long ages, but is now disclosed and through the prophetic writings is made known to all nations, according to the command of the eternal God to bring about the obedience of faith–to the only wise God be glory for evermore through Jesus Christ!” (Romans 16:25-27).

The mystery of the “two shall become one flesh” is that you and I can become one flesh with Christ Jesus. We can, through spiritual marriage, become one body and mind with Christ. This is an inner transformation that can occur within the body. The true church is the BODY of Christ and it can be located within our very bodies if we accept and allow it. “Behold the dwelling of God is with humans…I saw no temple in the city” (Revelation 21:3,22). Our higher Self is Christ, our higher nature is one with Christ, and our body can transfigure as a holy vessel. “The life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies” (2 Corinthians 4:10). We can be made whole as we transform into a completed human being, the anthropos, and become fully human as well as fully divine in this lifetime. We were created in the image and likeness of God. Only the limited ego mind, deceiving us into thinking we are less than this or unworthy, can keep us from our trueΒ inheritance and our real identity.

The mystery is the actual inner marriage between your soul and God. The two become one flesh, one mind, one heart, one soul, and one spirit. Jesus said, “In that day you will KNOW that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you” (John 14:20). You and God become ONE being with no separation, as you can only be separated from the essence and presence of God if you do so with your God-given free will mind. This is something that is not taught and must be discovered. It is not something that can be intellectually known, but must be experienced within your own body as you return to the perfection and wholeness in which you were created. The mystery is the actual physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual transformation that can be experienced within the body. The body of Christ is our own body when we let go of all the layers of conditioned belief! When we realize the truth of our real identity, we can let go of everything that is not Christ and watch our bodies and lives transform.

With this inner transformation you can realize a totally transformed outward marriage to your human spouse. “I betrothed you to Christ to present you as a pure bride to her one husband” (2 Corinthians 11:2). With the inner spiritual marriage you release the mistruths, emotional baggage and past wounds that keep you from intimacy and the deeper love that can seem so illusive in today’s jaded, jilted, betrayed, abandoned, cynical, and divorce-happy society. It is in the living, active, intimate relationship with Christ in your body that your outer relationships are empowered and enlivened.

Your primary spouse is God. “Your maker is your husband” (Isaiah 54:5). You might say that is fine for women but what about men? The soul is always considered feminine in both men and women’s bodies. The spiritual marriage is between our soul and God. The inner marriage is your soul as bride and Christ as bridegroom. “Come, I will show you the Bride, the wife of the Lamb” (Revelation 21:9b). The bride is YOU! This primary inner union allows you to enter into a deeper sacred union with your husband or wife. “Seek first the kingdom of God and all these things shall be yours as well” (Matthew 6:33).

If you come to God as a bride you will be made whole. “You shall be called by a new name which the mouth of the Lord will give. You shall be a crown of beauty in the hand of the Lord, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God. You shall no more be termed Forsaken, and your land [consciousness] shall no more be termed Desolate; but you shall be called My delight is in her and your land Married for the Lord delights in you and your land shall be married…and as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so shall God rejoice over you” (Isaiah 62:2-5).

“Delight in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart!” (Psalm 37:4).

You know i have to say if i were on the outside looking in at this inner relationship or marriage that is the spiritual union where the two become one, and didn’t have it, i would be anxious to get it. It has taken me in this lifetime all of a concious effort of 30 years. I think though that there are those who will become “one” in this way that you speak of here possibly in a matter of hours and that is a great hope for those who feel anxious over the seeming perplexity of the situation at hand in the times we live in. But then again, we were told to be anxious for NOTHING! I remember walking in the woods and seeing a tall pine tree, the Lord told me it represented me in the spirit. I walked around it and saw that it had a “forked top”. That freeked me out and i asked Spirit “oh no, what does that portend for me” the reply was ” the two of us walk as one”. It turned out to be a great relief and i fell on my knees with my head down, really having a hard time grasping why God would even care about me, then i looked up and saw three sparrows flying around the top of the tree. Then i remembered Mathew 29:31, “Don’t be afraid, you are worth more to me than many sparrows”. That kind of love hammers you when it happens! Carry on!

  2. You said, “I think though that there are those who will become β€œone” in this way that you speak of here possibly in a matter of hours and that is a great hope for those who feel anxious over the seeming perplexity of the situation at hand in the times we live in.” I couldn’t agree more as Jesus said those who said yes to labor at the final hours would receive the same amount as those who had labored for hours. Everything is available for all, whether we strive and effort for years or by faith just step into the kingdom. It think that the external world’s evolution (God’s inner Spirit kingdom was, is and will be forever perfect, complete and glorious) is allowing more and more people to wake up and receive the divine inheritance with ease and grace. Thank you for sharing your experiences as your witness can assist others to realize the same gift of grace in their lives. Testimony is prophesy for others for it to begin to manifest in their lives as well. Reading Jesus’ testimony/words is prophesying over our own life so it can come to pass; so Awesome! May you be richly blessed beyond what you ask, think or imagine!

Hi friend! I really like your blog! I see no reason for an earthly lustful marriage. Union with God is the greatest relationship a soul can have. Now I don’t mind platonic relationships, but that is hard to find. People don’t understand that friendship is 24 hour care for one another.

P.S. What do you think of opposite sex living together in a non sexual way?

      Love you!

      • Love and blessings to you! I see every reason for Godly, holy marriage with Christ as the Head and the three-fold cord that doesn’t easily break! I see every reason for sex only in marriage as the brain is changed by multiple partners, bonding hormones and sites in the brain are changed and watered-down with multiple partners, and lastly, sexual intimacy with others forms soul ties to the person and you take on their “stuff” and carry it in your body without the saving grace of a Godly marriage. I can see every reason for stable, healthy, wholesome, Godly marriage to produce healthy whole children and strong families as the basis of a strong community as the basis of a strong, healthy, wound free society. When children, family, marriage and society are under our Father’s Love, Provision and Protection, we are totally FREE to live life and life abundant, what Jesus brought to earth (heaven on earth) instead of the messed up world under the rule of the deceiver, the god of this world. The best friend any of us can ever have is Jesus the Christ of God 24/7; the best Guide, Teacher, Mentor we can have is his Holy Spirit 365 days/year. We can get the answer to every situation by asking our Father with a sincere heart. God bless you!

  3. Thank you so much for sharing your insights with us. I have been searching the internet for this topic but to no avail and now I have found your website. I am not married – divorced in fact (not by my own choice but by the choice of my former husband) and I believe God gave me Isaiah 54 during the early stages of living alone when I was hurting very much. I was a baby Christian then. I give God all the glory that, through His mercy, I have come to a position of having this deep, deep love for my Heavenly Bridegroom. I was looking for the thoughts of other Christians about the spiritual marriage but, as I said, could find nothing before visiting your website. I will need to re-read your posts in order to get the full meaning of it – to plumb its depths in a manner of speaking – and I am looking forward to it.

I would like to ask… but first I must give a little background… I have a wonderful relationship on a very high level with a man who is happily married but he and his wife have an “open” relationship (she is not a Christian). He is a Jew and we have known each other for 27 years. We are true soul mates and I have also now become his spiritual mother and mentor (I led him to the Lord about 9 months ago.) We have found that after he was converted, our relationship (mostly through correspondence – we live far from each other) became very spiritual to the point that it is almost purely spiritual at the moment and we experience a puzzling “one-ness”. Also, in the light of the fact that we are both now part of the Bride of Christ, I find it a little confusing to be so “one” with this friend in spirit – almost like a spiritual marriage relationship. Surely it cannot be right? Can you give your thoughts on spiritual marriage between humans (if there is such a thing…) especially in the light of our future spiritual marriage with Jesus Christ? Thank you, Isobelle

    • Isobelle, thank you for sharing so deeply with me. I honor your heart-full words. My first thought was for the restoration of your marriage to your former husband. Many seek divorce before God has a chance to transform and regenerate their heart; in fact, the act of divorce indicates a heart that has not yet been touched and transformed by Christ Jesus. Divorce is just a symptom of separation and divorce from God. Often reconciliation with God restores the physical marriage. When we are one with Abba in a spiritual marriage, it is able to manifest in the physical level between a husband and wife. Only God has the answer to your question and it can be found in your innermost heart. “Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward being; therefore teach me wisdom in my secret heart” Ps 51:6. Ask God who your husband is; the answer may surprise you. There is an excellent marriage ministry for dead marriages, loveless marriages, separated spouses and divorced spouses. The founder was divorced and her husband was about to marry another woman when the Holy Spirit intervened and brought them back together in miraculous ways. The website is http://www.rejoiceministries.org/?mc_cid=02a0b5a59f&mc_eid=42b66e9493. Spiritual marriage begins with our body, heart, mind, soul and spirit becoming one with God which allows us to truly become one with our physical spouse. Spiritual marriage is only possible between two Christ-transformed hearts in holy matrimony; what God truly joins together nothing can separate, just as nothing can separate us from God except our mind turned to the past or looking back once we are one with God on earth as it is in heaven. May you be guided into all Truth Isobelle; may you be blessed far more than you can ask, think or imagine!

    • You ask Jesus, the Christ of God, to come into your body, soul and spirit and remove all that is not of God, our Father and fill you with His Way, Truth and Life. You give Christ control, knowing you can trust Him. Jesus is alive, living, active and powerful; his Word is true and trustworthy. He has been through it all, the worst of the worst suffering and pain at the cross, so he can meet you right where you are, no matter what you have done, felt, thought or believed. He died to all that was wrong in the world and God’s creation so that human beings no longer have to live in sin and carry the burdens of sin. He resurrected only the Goodness, Love, Light, Peace, Joy, Truth, and pure Life of our inheritance in God and gives it to us in Himself. Christ Jesus ascended back to be perfectly one with his Father and God, our Abba Father, and he said he would lift us up with him! He is alive now and forever more and he wants to live in you, making you one with our Creator too in a reconciled relationship with our God and Father! Jesus’ great compassion, mercy and grace will cover you completely and remove every stain from the world. You ask him to send you his Holy Spirit to fill you, reveal Christ in you, teach you and be led by him! The Holy Spirit will lead you to all Goodness and perfect oneness with our Father! You only need to believe and receive it by faith through grace. You hear the Truth and come to Jesus; you ask and you will receive; you seek the kingdom of God and righteousness and you will find and all things will be given to you; you knock and the Door is opened. Jesus is the Door to the Father! The cross is the bridge between humans and God; Jesus still stands in the gap between heaven and earth, God and humans beings so we can be reunited! Jesus takes you to the Father; the Holy Spirit and Fire of God prepare you as a spotless bride, a pure bride to our one Spiritual Husband! When the spotless Lamb, Jesus, comes to live in you, the Holy Spirit unites with your spirit and transforms your mind, heart, and will (our soul) to be a new body temple of God where Holy Spirit dwells! Let the Spirit lead you into all Truth! Ask Holy Spirit to open the eyes and ears of your heart so you can hear God’s still, small Voice, then ask the Spirit of God to teach and lead you! Trust! Become like a child, with eager expectation of Good! Get to know Abba Father and his resurrection power! You will not be disappointed; you will be amazed and astonished at what Holy Spirit will reveal to you! Join the Body of Christ, have the faith of Jesus, receive the mind of Christ, a clean heart, a renewed right spirit, and Jesus and our Father will abide in you as you abide in Christ! All things are possible with God in Christ! Let Holy Spirit be your Guide, your Teacher, your Helper and Comforter; let Spirit lead you to the Truth!

    • Thank you Michael Clark! You are the second, actually third Michael Clark to come into my world lately! Powerfully led to Daniel 12:1 this morning “At that time shall arise Michael, the great prince who has charge of your people” And I remembered Michael contended, battled for the body of Moses! I get the feeling Michael is also contending for marriages, for healing, restoration and renewal of Real Love from the Source of Love! Real Love heals, transforms, delivers, and sets us free to BE Love! πŸ™‚ Go Michael! (I think Michael means “like God”) πŸ™‚

      • I’m only mildly surprised to find that you know other Michael Clarks! A very common name. πŸ˜‰ That’s cool the way you believe you are led to certain Bible passages. Apparently St. Francis of Assisi opened the Bible every morning, at “random” (i.e. guided) and used that passage to form the tone of the day. At least, that’s a legend I heard.

Michael and marriages… hmm… does “contending” mean that he breaks up the bad, inauthentic ones or that he fights to make them work?

        Thanks for everything.

        • πŸ™‚ I guess the view from the top of the mountain and being able to see the big picture through the eyes of God makes these things easier to know and contend for! Spirit led seems apropos!

  7. Yes yes. I guess I was just reacting to some degree. When I was younger I was somewhat fooled by Jungian “inflation.” You probably know the term and its meaning. I think a lot of younger, inexperienced people fall into that. Say, for instance, their name is Mary. They have a spiritual experience. Suddenly they’re the reincarnation of the Virgin Mary! Same thing could happen with the name Michael if I did not know better, which I do. Humility is key. Just as Jesus was victim to the world’s ignorance, in a way this can be good for us. It keeps things real.

Funny thing did happen, though, last night, and to borrow from another Jungian term, synchronicity:

I was thinking about you, and how enjoyable communicating with you has been as I went into my mother’s room. The second I got in her door I heard on the radio (she listens to Coast to Coast AM) that a person called “Clark” was talking to another person called “Michael.” It struck me as an interesting coincidence.

That’s the way it often works with me. I don’t *seek* coincidences and signs. But the older I get, the richer and deeper they become. πŸ™‚

  8. Great piece! After God made Adam, He made Eve out of a rib taken from Adam. As a result of the specific language in Genesis and elsewhere, discussion of marriage tends to focus on “two becoming one flesh.” Actually, the awesome physical intimacy is God’s gift and plan for procreation after the man and woman have bonded together intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually. It is the merging of two souls. Today, too many couples get married when they have bonded intellectually and emotionally, but don’t wait for the formation of the spiritual bond, which assures a lasting marriage. The result is an epidemic of divorces.

When God created Eve, Adam lost more than just a rib. He lost a portion of the essence of Adamhood–to Eve’s benefit. They were both created by God with a sense of incompleteness, i.e. Adam was “parted” to make Eve. Marriage is a reunion of the oneness or wholeness that was Adam’s alone for the short time before God created Eve. It’s that oneness or wholeness that represents Christ’s relationship with the church.

Such a oneness or wholeness can never be achieved by so called same-sex “marriage.” God designed a man and a woman to complement each other physically, intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually. Such comlementarity is not possible between same-sex pairs. An emotional attachment by any bizarre name is not marriage; it is a parody of marriage, which can never picture the relationship between Christ and the church. What do you think?

    • Thank you for taking the time to share. I appreciate you! I know identity comes from God and confused identity, whether gender or sexuality, comes from the evil one and his unclean spirits of the world, putting unnatural thoughts and feelings into minds and hearts. Confusion is never of God and my heart goes out to all who are being deceived, manipulated, in bondage or controlled by sex or lust, porn addictions, adultery or idolatry. Only Jesus can set us completely free from all things that hurt our soul causing disease, distress and disorders, close those gates and doors, and open the Door in Himself, the place he prepared for us, and give us his Holy Spirit and fire to purify, refine and make us white as snow in his blood to become a habitation for God on earth as it is in heaven! He is a good, good Father and he will do it for all who turn to Jesus to be healed, delivered and set free! Our Father will pour His love into our hearts through the Holy Spirit and open the eyes of our hearts to see as he sees, then we can spiritually perceive and spiritually discern good from evil and evil from good. We stop eating of the tree of good and evil and begin to eat of the tree of life: Christ Jesus and become a good tree that bears good fruit, the fruit of Christ’s Spirit in us!! God bless you!!

Our Father takes care of all his creation and God so loves the world that he sent Jesus to save human beings and reconcile us back to our relationship with God as sons made in His image and likeness. Thank you God! We come to Christ and find rest for our souls.
