“Why do you talk to me as if I am so far away? I am very near…in your heart. Ask me for love. Ask me; I am burning with desire to give it to you. Talk to me. For me there is no sweeter prayer.” (Jesus’ words to Gabrielle Bossis)
I can’t think of another human being than Jesus who is more mysterious, yet can be intimately known. I also can’t think of another person who has had more disinformation spread about him. Distortions abound, false information is believed and promulgated, truth is obscured, and a religion is created from the winner of a battle of man-made egos. It saddens me to know that so many say they are a Christian or believe in Christianity, but do not KNOW Jesus.
It also saddens me that so many see Christianity as a negative institution of “churchianity” and reject the life-giving Jesus based on the man-made religion that is often misrepresenting his teachings. The baby is thrown out with the bath water! Erwin McManus said “throw off the yoke of Christianity and become a follower of Christ Jesus!” Is this what the shadow side of the business/institution/church doesn’t want people to do: become empowered? Jesus came to earth to manifest God’s true nature. He was very critical of the religious of his day. A problem he would address today is religion devoid of spirituality or the Spirit of God, disempowering rather than empowering, following dogma and doctrines rather than the Holy Spirit, and using power to control, dominate, and manipulate others. “So, for the sake of your traditions, you have made void the word of God. You hypocrites! This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the precepts of men” (Matthew 15:6-9). There are too many Peters in the church leadership and not enough Mary Magdalenes! “And Peter took him and began to rebuke him [Jesus], saying, ‘God forbid, Lord! This shall never happen to you.’ But he turned and said to Peter, ‘Get behind me Satan! You are a hindrance to me; for you are not on the side of God, but of men” (Matthew 16:22-23).
I don’t have all the answers either, nor could anyone claim to do so. The thing I do know is that when I was spontaneously baptized with the Holy Spirit, I began to be taught within, freed, healed, and empowered. I had the experience of Jesus manifesting himself to me, asking me to come to him to receive all that I was seeking: rest, peace, love, joy, and wholeness of my body, emotions, mind, and soul. The Holy Spirit continues to teach me and guide me. I long for people to know the Jesus I have come to know and love: gentle yet powerful, compassionate yet strong, feminine yet masculine, tender yet respectfully forceful, loving, giving, sweet, caring, protective, powerfully healing, inclusive, peaceful, joyful, an incredible teacher, nurturer, healer, spouse, and so much more! Jesus promises radical love, radical peace, radical forgiveness, radical joy, radical harmony, radical freedom, radical wholeness, and radical oneness!
I believe it behooves every person in this world to investigate for themselves; to test the truth in the sanctity of their own inner being. Meditation on the spiritual heart is a wonderful way to go within and ask to be given the truth. Pilate said “What is truth”. Jesus did not answer him because I believe we are all called to go within and find the answer ourselves. Go within and ask the Christ to manifest himself to you in whatever form you can accept and receive. Ask to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Ask the Spirit of God to teach you the truth and show you the kingdom of heaven. “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 16:19). “Teach me wisdom in my secret heart” (Psalm 51:6). Let go of who you think you are, die to the past, and be reborn into your true spiritual self. “Unless one is born anew from above, he cannot see the kingdom of God” (John 3:3). “And they shall all be taught by God” (John 6:45). “You will know the truth and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32). Seek the truth for yourself instead of blindly believing what others are preaching.
Oswald Chambers posed an interesting question: “If we really believed that God meant what He said–what should we be like! Dare I really let God be to me all that He says He will be?” (My Utmost for His Highest, July 9th). Who would you be if you believed what Jesus taught? “I have given you an example that you should do as I have done to you” (John 14:15). Jesus taught that we were one with the Father as he was one with Father God. “In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you” (John 14:20). Jesus said we could do everything that he did: heal, deliver, free, reconcile, forgive, love enemies, perform miracles and signs and wonders, spiritually perceive through clairvoyance, clairaudience, clairsentience, become invisible and walk unseen through a crowd, disappear and reappear at a different place, appear in different forms, raise people from the dead, survive 40 days in the wilderness, and endure the deepest torture and suffering, coming out on the other side reborn, resurrected and ascended in consciousness. “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do” (John 14:12). What will you do?
What would you do if you accepted what Jesus gave to humankind? How would you live your life if you believed everything was possible? “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible” (Matthew 19:26). What would you do if you believed there was nothing to fear? “Fear not…it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom” (Luke 12:32). “You are always with me and all that is mine is yours” (Luke 15:31). Who would you be if you believed that you were a god? “Is it not written ‘I said you are gods’ (John 11:34; Psalm 82:6). What would you do if there was no more darkness? Jesus said “You are the light of the world…let your light shine before men” (Matthew 5:14,16). What would you do with your light? Jesus is the “true light that enlightens every human” (John 1:9). What would you do with your enlightenment? What would you do if you believed you were beloved, pure goodness and light? What would you do if you knew who you truly are and what you actually possess? Who would you be?
Ask Jesus to come to you and show you the truth and manifest himself to you. “Come to me, all who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest…unite with me and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls” (Matthew 11:28-29). Learn to perceive with your spiritual eye, hear with the ear of your spirit, understand with your heart, and turn for Jesus to heal you (Matthew 13:15). “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; turn [transform/metanoia], and believe in the good news” (Mark 1:15). “Have faith in God. Truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain [obstacle, challenge] ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him…Ask, believe you have received without doubting, forgive if you have anything against anyone” (Mark 11:23-25). What would you ask? What would you do? What is your deepest heart desire?
