Perfect Love

“Perfect love casts out all fear” (1 John 4:21).

” What the world needs now is love, sweet love, it’s the only thing that there is just too little of”

We are not accustomed to the word perfect associated with love. We are not used to the word perfect attached to anything on this earth having to do with human beings. Perfect love seems to be an idealized notion of movies or make-believe. Perfect love is promised in marriage ceremonies, “in sickness and in health, for richer or poorer, till death do us part”, yet the reality seems to be different. Unconditional love seems to be missing on this earth. I believe this is because higher truth is veiled to the ego, which knows only conditional love. Most human beings are ignorant, not in a pejorative sense, but misinformed about the true nature of love and our own true nature. Most of us are blind to the truth of our higher being, to the higher divine reality, hurt and wounded by the imperfect love of parents and other early relationships, and the scars from past love relationship failures. Most of us have a protective wall built around our heart, love shields, or ego defenses to guard our hearts against reexperiencing our past heart wounds, or feeling the pain of the past unmet needs for unconditional love. These protective defenses, while making perfect sense to the ego or false self, actually keep us from true intimacy and connection.

The heart in the picture above appears to be empty, but actually is Perfect Love that is able to hold all things. Our deeper spiritual heart is able to wrap its all-enveloping, loving arms around every experience (negative and positive) and be present to the deepest, seemingly unbearable feelings. The spiritual heart is able to bear the unbearable and break through the defenses, tear down the walls, and penetrate the shield, to allow the light of Presence to heal and make our wounded hearts whole once again. The spiritual heart is invisible to the eye, but can be found deep within our innermost being. It holds, embraces, contains, accepts, and meets all things as they are, yet is able to transform all things into its Self. Love is the Most High, as well as the ground of our being, and the height of our bliss. Unconditional love is our true inner self and our true nature.

“You are precious in my eyes, and honored, and I love you” (Isaiah 43:4).

Love fell to an imperfect state through our separation from the Source of God which is Perfect Love. The false self, or separate self, gives love to get something. The true self gives without expecting anything in return. The true self loves because it is its true nature. “You can give without love, but you cannot love without giving” (Christian Sorensen).  Imperfect conditional love was overruled over 2000 years ago when a human being was sent to earth containing the full divine nature, perfect divine DNA, and the original blueprint of perfection, to remove all negative karma, and unite all things in heaven and earth. We have just not gotten the message yet or awakened to the truth. It is time to wake up and know the truth!

Jesus brought the original perfection back to the earth, the possibility that all human beings could rise in consciousness by our own free will choice and put back on the divine garment of light/love, the mind of Christ, and have our hearts transformed into the perfected heart of Jesus. In essence, Jesus brought Perfect Love back into the world in the vehicle of Light and the highest consciousness of the Spirit. Remember your deepest truth. “God abides in us and his love is perfected in us” 1 John 4:12

“We know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his own Spirit…we know and believe the love God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in her. In this love is PERFECTED with us, that we may have confidence…there is no fear in love, but PERFECT LOVE casts out all fear” 1 John 4:7-21

Our first love must be God or we will never know Perfect Love! We must let God fill us with this unconditional Perfect Love to be able to love our spouse or partner with unconditional love. We can do nothing of our own accord, but when we ask to be filled with the higher love, we can love and heal others with the greatest Love, Power, and Presence of the Most High. Most people who I know who are struggling to love their partners even when they are appearing or acting less than lovable, threatening to leave, threatening divorce, or just plain acting in ways that are less than loving, have never opened their heart and let the higher, deeper transforming divine Love into their heart, minds, and bodies. Ask your partner “What has hurt you so badly that you feel you have to hurt me in order to heal it?” (Neal Donald Walsch).  Ask the light of Spirit to come into the wound in the heart so it can heal. Ask Christ Jesus to fill your heart with the love that God has for your spouse or partner. Be still and allow, open, and wait to receive the love into your heart. It is real, active, powerful, and a free gift of grace. Ask and receive the higher love!

“Hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us” (Romans 5:5)

This level of Love that is our very ground of being, can be found through meditation, or other mind/body/Spirit practices. The truth of our being is pure Love. This Higher Love is not a sentiment, a feeling, a thought, an emotion, an experience, or a romantic gesture. Perfect Love is the all-pervading essence of our being. Perfect Love is the container that we are living, moving, and having our being within. This Perfect Love meets, accepts, and allows all states of being, negative or positive, all thoughts whether distorted, negative and afflicted or positive, all feelings whether they are the absence of love, sexual, nonsexual, anger, bitterness, resentment or romantic bliss. Perfect love meets and allows all feeling states to arise and recede back into nothingness as it is unwavering and unchangeable. “Be still and know that I am God”

Perfect Love is the greatest gift of creation, as we are made in the image and likeness of God. It is our very being as human beings. The energy of Love is the most powerful energy in the whole world. Unfortunately, most people never look beneath the surface emotions of romantic love, or erotic love. Most human beings feel what they think is true love, then walk away when feelings of resentment, anger, disappointment, lack of sexual desire, or disillusionment arise. The secret that has not been shared is that these so-called negative feelings are the gateway to Perfect Love. Underneath the emotional level of the heart is the spiritual heart and the portal to the expansive, infinite, miracle level of Perfect Love and Oneness. Negative, painful experiences happen to lead us to the higher love that comes only from the Spirit. Oswald Chambers calls these painful experiences “the undetected sacredness of circumstances”.

Next time you are triggered or in the midst of a painful negative emotional experience, ask the light of the Spirit to come into the depth of your pain. Breathe into the pain, bear the seemingly unbearable pain, and experience the melting, warm infusion of the light and love of Presence in your heart. Just noticing and allowing, without trying to avoid, push away, or suppress the pain, will often dissolve the pain. Breathing into the pain and calling on the Light of the Spirit to enter in the midst of darkness will transform or transmute the pain. The more you remember to meet the pain and bring the light to the darkness, the easier it is to transform your life and the less often you will experience the negative situations in the first place. Once you awaken to the truth of your being and realize you are one with the vast, spacious presence of Love, you will no longer need the triggers to lead you to the truth.

Perfect Love is not the opposite of romantic heartbreak. Nonduality is not the opposite of duality. Nonduality contains all of duality in a vast container of Love. Nonduality is the infinite container of Love that holds all things, meets all things in our life journey, transforms all things, even the darkest negative feelings. Negative or positive, feelings of anger or love, erotic thoughts or lack of sexual feelings, resentment or joy, excitement or dread, Perfect Love meets each one and wraps her loving arms around all thought, feelings, or states of consciousness. If you allow each feeling, thought, or physical appearance to be held in this container of Perfect Love, you will see them arise then recede back into the stillness and silence from which they arose. The unchanging, still, powerful ground of Perfect Love will remain, ever-present, ever abiding in you, as you.

“Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous or boastful; it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrong, but rejoices in the right. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends…when the PERFECT comes, the imperfect will pass away…now I know in part; then I shall understand fully, even as I have been fully understood…the greatest of these is love” 1 Corinthians 13:1-13

Once you understand what love really is, Perfect Love, not conditional love, and that it is the truth of who you are underneath all your thoughts, feelings, beliefs, or levels of consciousness, you can let go and be the truth of your being, be the deep, wide, high, infinite container of Love. You can let go and let Love be love in you, as you.

“Be strengthened with might through his Spirit in the inner human, and that Christ may dwell in your hearts and through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have the POWER to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth of love, and to KNOW the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be FILLED with the FULNESS of GOD” Ephesians 3:16-19

The Spirit of God “who by the POWER at work WITHIN us is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, to him be the glory” Ephesians 3:14-21

Discover Perfect Love as your ground of being by sitting in silence, directing your attention to the center of your chest. To aid in focusing your attention and quieting your thoughts, place your hand over the center of your chest and breathe slowly in and out of your heart. Ask for Spirit to fill your heart with unconditional love.
