Even in suffering

I woke up this morning, realizing that the purpose of suffering is to know God better, coming closer to God when nothing else will comfort you; the unasked for chance or opportunity to get closer to God as he comes near to the broken hearted to bind up your heart, comfort, give beauty for ashes, oil of gladness for mourning, a mantle of praise instead of a faint spirit; make you an oak of righteousness as you let the planting of God grow in you, as he promises to repay the enemy and adversaries for what they have done (Isaiah 61:1-11). A crisis is both a danger and opportunity to either get bitter or better. “I set before life and death: choose life; I set before you blessings and curses: choose blessings.”

I realized this morning that the meaning of suffering is to know we can absolutely trust God our Father, even in the worst situations and in our raw, broken places; and that we do not have to stay there or live there any more, because Jesus made a Way, brings Truth to replace the lies, brings resurrection Life to replace the losses, abandonments, betrayals, and sufferings. Jesus suffered the worst suffering possible, to be able to take our suffering when we come to Christ, and when we are ready to lay our heavy burdens down at the Cross, we can die with him, bury the past in his tomb, and resurrect with him into His Christ life, taking His courage, strength, might, power, wisdom, understanding, counsel, knowledge of God, and the reverential awe and wonder of the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, even the Spirit of Truth coming and remaining in and with you, healing, delivering, and setting free as we can bear to know the truth so the truth can set us free.

“And this is eternal life, that they know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent” John 17:3

“Remember, O Lord, what has befallen us…our inheritance has been turned over to strangers…We have become orphans…widows…We are weary, with no rest…The joy of our hearts has ceased; our dancing has turned to mourning…But Thou, O Lord, dost reign for ever; thy throne endures to all generations…Restore us to thyself, O Lord, that we may be restored! Renew our days” Lamentations 5:1-21

“I will contend with those who contend with you…Then all flesh will know that I am the Lord your Savior, your Redeemer, the Might One” Isaiah 49:25b, 26b

“Hearken to Me, you who know righteousness, the people in whose heart is my Word; fear not the reproach of men, and be not dismayed at their reviling…Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the Lord…make a way for the redeemed to pass over…I, I am he who comforts you…Rouse yourself, rouse yourself, stand up…Awake, awake, and put on your beautiful garment [of Christ]…Loose the bonds from your neck, O captive daughter…See eye to eye…the Lord comforts his people…Depart, depart, go out from the midst of this world…you who bear the Christ in your vessel…The Lord goes before you, and the God is your rear guard…You will see, hear and understand…Believe and see the Power of the Lord revealed” Isaiah ch 51-53

“Your Maker is your husband…who has called you like a wife forsaken and grieved in spirit, like a wife when she is cast off. For a brief moment I forsook you, but with great compassion I have gathered you to Myself…My steadfast Love will not depart from you, and my new covenant of Peace shall not be removed…O afflicted one, storm-tossed, and not comforted, behold I give you a new foundation [Rock solid, new gemstone walls, and gates of pearl of great price]…You are taught by the Lord…established in righteousness, far from oppression for you shall not fear; no terror will come near you. If any one stirs up strife, it is not from Me and they shall fall because of it…I blow fire… No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue confuted that rises against you or judges you. This is the heritage of those in Christ and Christ in you. Vindication is from the Lord” Isaiah 54:5-17

“Incline your ear and come to Christ; hear, that you soul may live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you: My steadfast, sure love” Isaiah 55:3

“Arise, shine…lift your eyes up and see…be radiant; your heart will thrill and rejoice because the abundance of the [Living Water] and the pure gold [refined by fire] will come to you, to proclaim the praise of the Lord, as you are ministered to, as I make my house glorious in you…the glory comes to you to make my sanctuary beautiful on earth…I will make your overseers Peace and taskmasters Righteousness…your walls Salvation and your gates Praise…the Lord will be your light, God your glory…Your days of mourning ended” Isaiah 60:1-20

“The Spirit of the Lord God and His anointing binds up broken hearts…comforts those who mourn, grants beauty for ashes and oil of gladness instead of mourning” Isaiah 61:1-11

“You shall no longer be called Forsaken or Desolate, but My delight is in her and Married…as the Bridegroom rejoices over the bride…God rejoices over you…Go through, go through the gates, prepare the way, build up, build up, clear away the stones, lift up the ensign of Righteousness…Say to the daughters…your reward is with Christ and His recompense for your adversaries” Isaiah 62:1-12

“Take the new name…bless yourself by the God of Truth…forget your former troubles [hid with Christ in God]…The former things shall not be remembered, or come into mind…like the days of a tree shall My people be…Before you call I answer, while you are yet speaking I hear…You shall not hurt or destroy in Christ and Christ in you” Isaiah 65:15-25

“Blessed is he who trusts in the Lord. He is like a tree planted by the water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when the heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit” Jeremiah 17:7-8
